Penrite Racing Opens Australian Grand Prix Strongly: Matt Payne Secures Podium

Penrite Racing commenced their racing campaign at the Australian Grand Prix with a determined focus on maintaining their second position in the team championship standings. The day comprised five dynamic track sessions, including two practice runs, two qualifying rounds, and an adrenaline-fueled race.

In the practice sessions, Matt Payne showcased his skill by securing P2 and P6, while teammate Richie Stanaway claimed P12 and P16 spots in Practices 1 and 2, respectively. The team’s consistent performance extended into the qualifying rounds, with Matt and Richie clinching P5 and P8 in one session, and P5 and P10 in the other.

However, the most exciting moments of the day occurred during Race 3, which was filled with twists and turns at every corner. Matt Payne’s strong performance came to the fore as he secured a podium finish, marking his first podium since his victory at Adelaide in the final round of the 2023 season. Despite facing challenges, including a last-lap error, Payne demonstrated remarkable resilience, securing a spot in the top three.

Though initially crossing the line in 4th place, a penalty imposed on Nick Percat propelled the Kiwi driver to P3, marking his 2nd ever podium after his Adelaide 500 victory last year.

Reflecting on the race, Matt Payne, expressing his thoughts, stated, “It was definitely a tough race, but we battled hard and secured a podium finish, and I’m really pleased with how things turned out. I’m looking forward to maintaining consistency and seeing what the rest of the weekend has in store.”

A notable highlight of the day was the collective achievement of the Supercars’ young talents. With an average age of 22 years, 11 months, and two days, Feeney, Brown, and Payne collectively set a record as the youngest-ever Supercars podium lineup.

While Richie Stanaway faced early challenges, finishing in P12, he remains set for redemption in tomorrow’s race 4 in Melbourne.

Overall, Penrite Racing’s performance at the Australian Grand Prix demonstrates a drive for success. With solid performances across practice, qualifying, and the race itself, the team maintains its second position in the Championship standings. As the weekend progresses, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Matt Payne and Penrite Racing as they continue their pursuit of victory and aim to solidify their position at the forefront of the Repco Supercars Championship.
