REYNOLDS AND CAMPBELL BOTH IN THE TOP FIVE ON THURSDAY AT BATHURST

Thursday, October 6 – Repco Bathurst 1000

Penrite Racing kept its powder dry on the opening day of practice at Mount Panorama as David Reynolds and his co-driver Matt Campbell showed their pace in the top five on the time sheets, today.

Beginning with Practice 1 this morning, lead drivers Reynolds and Lee Holdsworth negotiated the slippery condition, as the track dried out from heavy rainfall in the Bathurst region.

For the bulk of the session both drivers worked on tuning their Ford Mustang’s to the notoriously challenging Mt Panorama circuit, before registering flying laps late, to climb into the top 10. Reynolds managing P4, while reigning Bathurst 1000 champion Holdsworth was P10.

In Practice 2 this afternoon, Matt Payne and Campbell climbed behind the wheel for their first laps in the co-driver only session.

Ahead of his Bathurst 1000 debut this weekend, Payne tested the limits on top of the mountain with a few scary moments early, before finding his groove and bringing car #10 home nice and straight to end the session P15.

On the other side of the garage, Campbell eased his way into the hour-long session aboard car #26, before the the 2019 Bathurst 12-Hour winner showed why he is revered on the international motorsport stage, clocking an impressive lap time on fresh rubber at the death of the session to elevate himself into P5.

Tomorrow cars are on track for practice from 10.10am AEDT tomorrow before things get serious in Qualifying at 4.15pm AEDT.

DRIVER COMMENTS

Car #26 Driver David Reynolds, said: “In Practice 1 the track was really greasy and the car was hard to drive, so my confidence was low, but we made good changes in the session and I was able to put a fast lap together by the end of it.”

“At the end of the co-driver session this afternoon we put Matt Campbell on new tyres and he did a very nice lap time, I’m really happy with how he went. He gives great engineering feedback and it is easy to see why he’s a world class driver.

“I’m happy we’ve done some dry running today, whatever happens with the weather I feel ready to go for qualifying.”

Car #10 Driver Lee Holdsworth, said: “Overall I’m really pleased with our day. The car had good balance out of the box so it’s given me confidence to push.”

“Matt (Payne) did a good getting up to speed today, it’s a very long weekend but we’ve ticked the first box.

“We know the rain is coming, but I’m looking forward to seeing how our cars go in wet conditions.”

Car #26 co-driver Matt Campbell, said: “I’m feeling comfortable in the car, it was a slow start for me but I was really happy with how it ended. It looked pretty iffy with the conditions throughout the session.

“We don’t know what the weather conditions are going to do, I think it’s anyones game on Sunday, Dave has shown how fast he can be here in mixed conditions so I don’t see any reason why we can’t be up the pointy end after a solid day one.”
