WRAP UP:
The last day of the Darwin Triple Crown began with a mix of challenges and opportunities for Penrite Racing as they participated in round 5 of the Repco Supercars Championship.
The day started with the race 12 qualifying session, putting both drivers’ skill and strategic decision-making to the test. Despite a solid effort, Payne narrowly missed qualifying for the top 10 shootout. Meanwhile, Stanaway faced challenges in matching the top speeds and secured P15 on the starting grid.
As race 12 approached, Payne encountered a setback when his car failed to start due to a fuel-related issue. The Penrite Racing team responded promptly, quickly resolving the issue with repairs just moments before the warm-up lap. However, starting from the pit lane immediately placed Payne at a significant disadvantage.
Stanaway made an impressive start to the race, quickly gaining a position. An early safety car period allowed Payne an opportunity to regain lost ground. Despite their efforts, Penrite Racing struggled to keep up with the pace set by the frontrunners throughout the race. When the checkered flag waved, Matt Payne finished in P20, while Richie Stanaway managed to advance five positions to finish in P10 from his starting position.
Following today’s results, Penrite Racing secured 4th place in the team championship standings. Matt Payne currently holds 9th place, with Richie Stanaway in 10th position in the driver standings.
Looking ahead, the team is now focused on regrouping and refining their strategies as they prepare for the next challenge in Townsville.
