Penrite Racing Faces Challenges on Day 1 in Perth
As Round 4 of the Repco Supercars Championships commenced in Perth, all eyes were on the track for an exciting start to the weekend’s action. However, for Penrite Racing, currently in second place in the team standings, the day didn’t unfold as expected.
The day’s sole session, Practice 1, began at 2:20 pm with Matt Payne and Richie Stanaway hitting the track. Unfortunately, luck wasn’t in their favour as both drivers faced challenges. Despite setbacks, they utilised the session to fine-tune their setups for the upcoming races, leveraging data to improve their performance over the weekend. Payne finished in P21, while Stanaway secured P17, placing them towards the bottom of the field.
Reflecting on the session, Richie Stanaway remarked, “It was a bit of an up and down session. We did a lot of testing on the car, and we’ve got a lot of work to do overnight. We’ll be looking at the data and all the setup changes we made. But I feel like we can take something positive out of it.”
Team Principal David Cauchi commented, “We really struggled with the balance on both cars, so car performance isn’t where we want it to be. We had a couple of issues in the session, including a couple of flat-spotted tires, and unfortunately, we missed our green run at the end due to the red flag with about 3 minutes to go. So, we have a few more questions than answers after today, but we have a 20-minute practice session tomorrow, so we should be able to address those before qualifying.”
Looking ahead, the team is focused on regrouping. With their sights set on overcoming today’s setbacks, Penrite Racing is determined to bounce back and regain their competitive edge on the demanding Perth circuit.
Tomorrow brings a fresh opportunity for the team, with three sessions on the agenda: Practice 2 at 9:15 am AWST / 11:15 am AEST, qualifying at 12:00 pm AWST / 2:00 pm AEST, and Race 9 at 3:45 pm AWST / 5:45 pm AEST.
Fans are encouraged to stay tuned for updates as Penrite Racing continues to push boundaries and strive for success, with the weekend just beginning.
