Excitement Grows as Supercars Championship Returns to New Zealand

The Taupō International Motorsport Park will come alive this weekend as the Repco Supercars Championship roars back into action for the ITM Taupō Super400. It’s a big moment for New Zealand, marking the return of championship racing since 2022, with Taupō now being the permanent home for Supercars in the country.

Matt Payne and Richie Stanaway of Penrite Racing, along with drivers from across the Supercars grid, will compete in intense 200km races on both Saturday and Sunday during the April 19-21 event. Action begins on Friday with a 90-minute practice session, paving the way for qualifying rounds and a competitive 60-lap race each day.

This highly anticipated event is happening right in the backyard of Penrite Racing’s drivers, surrounded by the stunning landscapes of New Zealand. The team is ready for a big weekend with fresh new looks on their cars, expressing their appreciation for the Kiwi fans.

Both drivers, Matt Payne, and Richie Stanaway, are heading into the weekend with confidence after strong showings in previous races. Their determination is fuelled by the desire to perform well on home turf and make their family, friends and fans proud.

“What would it mean to win in New Zealand?” Matt Payne reflects, “It would mean everything and be the biggest achievement of my career. It would be a very emotional day for me and my family. Always been a dream of mine to win in front of a home crowd.”

Richie Stanaway shares a similar sentiment, “It would mean everything. My whole life is focused on trying to win a sprint race so it would mean everything to me anywhere but especially at home in front of family and friends.”

With Penrite Racing currently placed 2nd overall in the team championship, the team is focused on making a significant impact. Fans are encouraged to support the team as they prepare for an action-packed weekend in Taupō. It’s sure to be an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
