TOWNSVILLE 500: PROMISING FRIDAY PRACTICE

Penrite Racing showed promising pace today in both practice sessions at Reid Park Circuit.

Equipped with newly provided updates to the rear wing, the Penrite Racing Mustangs recorded a pair of top ten finishes with impressive results  shown once again by rookie, Matt Payne.

Practice 1 had David Reynolds sitting in P6 and Matt in P12. Practice 2 saw Matt complete the session in P8 ahead of the Red Bull driven by Feeney. Dave clocked a 1:13.9320 finishing his session in P11 just shy of the top ten.

David Reynolds said:

“Townsville is a street track so every time you go to a street circuit it is quite a green track;  it needs time to rubber in as they don’t race here any other time being a normal road so the track evolves quite a lot. We ended up P6 in Practice 1; pretty happy with our balance then Practice 2 we tried to go for a bit more race balance and I think we achieved that but we just didn’t make the most of the new tyres. I couldn’t get my first lap in as I had some brake locking issues at turn 1, but otherwise it has been a positive day here. We have learned a lot about this new aero package and I am looking forward to tomorrow.”

Matt Payne said:

Overall a really good day for car #19 here in Townsville, we rolled out pretty strong in Practice 1. Set up felt not too off the mark. Just changing a few things to enhance the balance. Ran greens at the end and made some minor mistakes on that run so we didn’t really see the true potential there. Practice 2 was really positive for us, we had good pace at the start of the session. It is really now just small changes which is good, we know we are pretty close to where we want to be. We finished that session P8; I think we could have been higher if it weren’t for a small mistake on my best lap. It will be very tight tomorrow and I think the tyre deg will be the main factor in the race will be the biggest factor; a lot of people will be struggling with the rears over the stints.”

The first of the two Qualifying sessions of the weekend will begin at 10:15am AEST tomorrow, with the Top Ten Shootout to follow at 12:00pm.

Race 16, will start at 2:40pm.
