THE PREVIEW: NTI TOWNSVILLE 500

Penrite Racing is ready to show our true potential at the NTI Townsville 500 this weekend.

Tasmania and Darwin rounds didn’t yield the results the team anticipated, and motivation is high among the Braeside squad to put in a strong performance at the Reid Park street circuit this weekend.

Penrite Racing currently sits 10th in the team’s championship with David Reynolds 10th & Matt Payne leading rookie in 18th.

The Townsville 500 will host two 250km races which will make for plenty of opportunity for overtaking in the sunshine state.

Team Principal David Cauchi said:

“The year has been challenging for us so far, but we have shown we can be competitive. We have learned a lot from the previous two rounds where our performance was not at the level we need it to be. Our rookie test day last week gave us some insight into the areas of the car that we have been struggling with. There are still seven rounds to go this year so plenty of opportunity to move forward. I am excited to get to Townsville, it’s always an enjoyable event and we are focussed on getting the results we know we can achieve.”

Matt Payne said:

“I am keen to get to Townsville; I raced there previously in Porsche Carrera Cup and in Super2 last year.

“We have scored some solid results earlier this year, however the last couple of rounds have been disappointing for us but I see it as an opportunity to learn, and for me, I am always looking for chances to improve. We had a rookie test recently and I hope it has helped us move forward. I believe we have an encouraging package behind us this weekend.”

David Reynolds said:

“I always look forward to Townsville; the weather is beautiful; the scenery is amazing and the fans there give the weekend a super atmosphere. The track is great and there are some good spots to overtake. There will be two races which offer chances for us to move forward and make up for some of the things we lacked the last two rounds.

“We aren’t sitting where we want to be in the championship at the moment, but we are learning all the time, and the team are working hard to make the necessary improvements which I think will give us a good package going forward.”

Penrite Racing’s Indigenous Livery is also returning for the NTI Townsville 500 which will be broadcast on the Seven Network on Saturday and Sunday with Practice kicking off on the Friday at 10:10am.
