SUNDAY WRAP: NED WHISKY TASMANIA SUPERSPRINT

Back to back qualifying sessions started the action at Symmons Plains for races 11 and 12 on Sunday.

The 15 minute sessions resulted in Payne qualifying P18 and Reynolds P9 for Race 11.

Payne then started the final race of the weekend in P12 and Reynolds in P18.

Right rear damage for Reynolds on the opening lap after contact with Van Gisbergen saw him puncture the right rear and rejoin a lap down. He finished P23 after no further action was taken on the incident.

Payne had a consistent race and made a couple couple of positions in the closing laps to finish his race in P15.

The final race of the weekend had the Penrite duo battling with the Nulon entry of Golding for position. By lap 7 Reynolds and Payne were sitting in P14 and P15 respectively. Both drivers worked hard in the closing laps which unfortunately saw Payne drop five positions in the final laps battling older tyres having pitted on lap 10 eventually finishing P21. Reynolds moved forward six positions to finish P12.

Matt Payne said:

“It was a pretty tricky weekend; not the greatest weekend I’ve had racing. We’ve struggled for pace pretty much the whole weekend. I had a good qualifying starting in 12th this afternoon, and just got a shocking start and it just didn’t go our way yesterday or today. We just need to figure out what happened and try find a little bit more car speed.”

“I am looking forward to the next round where hopefully we can show some better results.”

David Reynolds said:

“We pretty much struggled from the moment we rolled out the truck. We haven’t had much pace to show this weekend.

“Today I had a drama in qualifying; locked a few brakes where I shouldn’t have and made a few mistakes. The car was really hard to drive. I had the contact with Shane van Gisbergen and that sort of ruined my race and I went a lap down. The next race we started 18th and all I could manage was 12th, so we moved forward but we sort of struggled in key areas you need to make the cars fast and we need to sit down and think about it. We are off to Darwin next though and I am  really looking forward to it; nice warm climate and can’t wait to get there.”

The Darwin Triple Crown will take place on the 16th to the 18th of June.
