PENRITE RACING FRIDAY WRAP MELBOURNE SUPERPRINT

The rain fell just as the Gen3 cars took to the albert park grand prix circuit in what is the second round of the year. the start of Race 4 was delayed and was time certain due to incidents in the Formula 3 qualifying.

A flag signalled the start to the race which was declared wet. In effect, this eliminated the multi-compound tyre requirement.

Starting P6 on the grid, Reynolds made a strong start moving to fifth before heavy contact which turned him coming into Turn 1 leaving him beached in the gravel at Turn 1.

Matt echoed his strong performance in yesterday’s sessions, running in the early laps P11.

A yellow flag and safety car came out as Percat had an electrical fire on lap 2.

Reynolds pitted with 5 minutes to go with Payne running in P19.

Another safety car closed the race which ended with only 3 racing laps.

Payne and Reynolds concluded their race in P19 and P23 respectively.

An update to the results: Matt Payne – P17

Matt Payne said:

“I got a good start; jumped off the line well and then we were sitting in P11 which was good. I had a good stop – got jumped by Heimgartner but was clean out of the pits. The safety car came out which definitely hurt us a lot and I ended up falling a bit down the field. Overall, it was a pretty good race from my side, I think I did the best job I could, and it was just unfortunate with the circumstances, but I’ve got to take the positives.”

 David Reynolds said:

“Not a great day again; wasn’t my fault at all – got a reasonable start which ended at Turn 1. I was trying to manage the bloke beside me and beat him into turn 1 and all of a sudden, I got drilled from behind and sent into the sand trap and that was my race over. we have 2 qualifying sessions tomorrow and a race, so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve through the rest of the weekend.”

Tomorrow will see two Qualifying Sessions followed by Race 5 which begins at 5:30pm.
