SUNDAY WRAP THRIFTY NEWCASTLE 500

It was a positive start to the season for Penrite Racing with David Reynolds bringing home pole position and a third-place finish in Sunday’s Race 2.  Matthew Payne set impressive pace throughout the weekend securing 12th place in Qualifying 2 and a 14th place finish in the final race of the weekend.

Starting in the top spot, Reynolds lost position at the start to Mostert.

An incident involving Fraser at the start resulted in a red flag however the race resumed on lap 4.

Payne came in for his pit stop on lap 16 coming out P17 in the field.

Reynolds came in for his stop on lap 31.

Dave got ahead of Feeney on lap 40 to take 3rd place in what was a mega move by the 2017 Bathurst winner.

Reynolds battled with the #97 on lap 57  following close behind last year’s champion.

In an impressive battle with 4 laps remaining, Reynolds overtook Golding on lap 72 to take P3 from the Nulon entry.

“I’m ecstatic with Sunday’s results,” said Reynolds.

“I didn’t quite have the pace of the front runners (van Gisbergen and Mostert), but I’m super proud of the team for all their hard work over the weekend.”

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship will resume at the Beaurepaires Melbourne SuperSprint on March 30-April 2.
