SYDNEY TEST DAY WRAP
The highly anticipated Gen3 cars were on full display at Sydney Motorsport Park with all Supercars team taking to the track ahead of the first round in Newcastle.
Penrite Racing’s Ford Mustangs undertook their third test day and the first with both #19 and #26 running together.
David Reynolds and Matthew Payne were joined by Co-Driver Garth Tander for his third test day with the crew.
A wet start to the day saw all teams show caution with the damp conditions.
On conclusion of the day, Team Principal, David Cauchi said: “Overall today was a difficult day with the conditions of Sydney Motorsport Park, very intermittent rain so we only got a few patches of dry running, but we once again were able to get through some of our test program. We had all three drivers test both cars so again it’s really good to see them working together and the cars ran flawlessly again so we just had to go back and analyse what we’ve learnt. We’ve got one more test day to come next week before Newcastle.”
Matthew Payne said: “Just wrapped up our test day at Sydney Motorsport Park for pre-season testing…the day went really well; we started out and it was a little bit wet so we were getting a feel for the car with the wet conditions. It was good; we didn’t know what to expect… then it dried up a little bit and that was good to get some dry running in and that’s what we came here for. Made some set up changes and definitely made good progress today. Overall, it’s been very positive and can’t wait for our next test day at Winton.”
Garth Tander said: “Good day, obviously first time we’ve run both cars together on the same day. Good to get a bit of wet weather running early in the morning. The weather was a bit if a challenge, so we didn’t get through our whole test program, but cars were good. As always the way on test days you learn a lot of what not to do as much as you learn what to do. I think we’re in a pretty good spot and looking forward to testing again next week.”
