Following on from the team’s Gen3 update last week, Penrite Racing’s Gen3 Ford Mustangs are taking shape at their Braeside workshop with the crew progressing to install a number of bodywork panels to both chassis. In addition, the engine has been mounted in to one of the cars, with the second chassis due to receive the same treatment next week.
The next stages of the build include plumbing the engines in and gluing on the rest of the panels.
Penrite Racing Team Principal, David Cauchi said:
“This week has been predominantly focussed on getting the bodywork on to the car so a lot of work has gone in to getting that in the correct position relative to the CAD (computer aided design) design that we’ve been given.”
“So now it’s starting to look a bit more like a race car. There’s also a lot of work that’s gone in underneath; some suspension is now bolted in and now we’re going to start to focus on a lot of the lines, so a lot of lines in the engine bay, brake lines, a lot of soft lines for gearbox on transaxle plumbing.
“So, it’s progressing quite well; still a lot of work to do to get it racing, but we’re really happy with how our car’s looking so far,” said Cauchi.
Penrite Racing Technical Director, Grant McPherson said:
“We’ve had a really productive week this week; most of the bodywork’s been installed through the centre section and the engine’s in location. Front suspension is in as well and early next week we’ll glue the screens on and hopefully start gluing on some doors and guards, and then we’ll move on to plumbing all the engine as well.”
