FRIDAY ADELAIDE QUALIFYING REPORT

The Penrite Racing crew felt the double-edged sword of Supercars following Qualifying for the opening race of the Adelaide 500, today.

While David Reynolds kept his best until last today to zip his way into the top 10 shootout, Lee Holdsworth fell agonisingly short of joining his teammate as he wound up P11.

Only 0.015s is all that separated the popular pilot of car #10 from earning a one lap dash after a kerb strike late in the session putting paid to getting another lap completed.

Earlier in the day both drivers and the team were searching high and low for the ideal car set up, as the freshly resurfaced layout posed its challenges for engineers as humble expectations were set for the afternoon qualifying session.

Reynolds will get the chance to improve his grid position while Holdsworth will start his penultimate full time race from P11 on the grid.

DRIVER COMMENTS

Car #10 Driver Lee Holdsworth, said: “Making a shootout this weekend has been high on my list so to miss out by just 0.015s is tough to take.”

“I got a kerb strike on my last run at the Senna chicane and that lap would have got me in.

“Overall, the car feels pretty good and I’m optimistic it’ll be a strong race car tomorrow. It’s going to be hot and hard work out there tomorrow.”

Car #26 Driver David Reynolds, said: “Our car wasn’t great in Practice so we had to dig deep to tune it up in time for Qualifying. I drove it hard in that session and I’m very happy to be P6 and in the shootout.

“Practice, a Top 10 Shootout and a two-hour race tomorrow in this heat will be very tough.”
