THE PREBRIEF: GOLD COAST 500

Sunshine, surfboards, beaches and lots of kerbs to jump on the streets of Surfers Paradise sets the scene for this weekend’s Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500.

After a three-year hiatus due to covid, one of the favourite events on the calendar returns as the penultimate event on the 2022 Supercars Championship calendar.

David Reynolds has form on the glitter strip, with his maiden Supercars win in 2013 and scored a podium in his last outing in 2019.

While Holdsworth brings some momentum after a solid Bathurst weekend, as he looks  to go out on a high in his last season as a full-timer.

Holdsworth says: “It’s a tough little track that doesn’t give you any chances to take a break. I love the challenge of racing here because it rewards the drivers that are prepared to have a big go, but if you stuff it up there’s big consequences.”

Reynolds says: “It’s so good too finally be going back racing on the Gold Coast. The racing here is always chaotic, so you have to be patient and pick your moments wisely. I’d love to give our crew a good result for rebuilding the car after Bathurst.”

The Circuit: This is a 2.96km high-speed, car crunching, thrill ride around the busiest parts of Surfers Paradise. Drivers reach a top speed of 265 km/h along pit straight with the tight turn 4 hairpin and the back chicane the hot spots for passing, crashing and airborne supercars.

Race Format: Two 250km races.

One each on Saturday and Sunday with a top 10 shootout before each race.

The Weather: Lots of sunshine… it’s Queensland. High 20’s each day and no rain.
