TRIO OF TOP TEN FINISHES FOR REYNOLDS CAPS OFF PUKEKOHE FAREWELL IN NZ

MEDIA RELEASE

Sunday, September 11 – ITM Auckland SuperSprint

David Reynolds steered clear of the chaos to make it three top ten finishes in a consistent Sunday performance, as Supercars raced at Pukekohe for the final time, today.

Carnage opened the days racing on lap 1 in Race 28 this morning, when Anton De Pasquale and Will Brown both crashed in seperate incidents, with the force of Brown’s commodore shifting the tracks concrete fence into the path of pit lane entry, causing a red flag.

After a lengthy delay, racing resumed lap 6 of 41 and Reynolds pulled off a heart-in-mouth move at the fast and bumpy final corner on Broc Feeney to claim P6 before his pit stop. After pitting Reynolds found himself P7 and held onto his position in a shortened Race 27.

Holdsworth avoided any contact on lap 1 but was pushed to the back of the field in the process. The team ran him long, just like Race 27 yesterday, and he was able to make amends, climbing six places from his grid position to finish P12.

The chaotic opening lap theme was back again for Supercars last ever race at Pukekohe, with James Courtney hitting the fence at turn 1 in Race 29, causing a safety car that lasted 10 laps.

Buried in the pack, Holdsworth pitted on lap 12 when the safety car peeled off, while Reynolds in P7, did his best to keep championship leader Shane van Gisbergen at bay.

As the race and pit stops unfolded, Reynolds and Holdsworth were unable to make up any major ground. Reynolds bringing his Mustang home P8 to make it a trifecta of top ten finishes for the weekend, while Holdsworth was P14.

Penrite Racing is on track next for the Repco Bathurst 1000 from October 6-9.

DRIVER COMMENTS

David Reynolds, said: “We got three top ten finishes this weekend which isn’t bad at all. Our car was about sixth or seventh on pace all and that’s where we finished so we did the best with what we had.”

“The kiwi fans have made it an awesome experience for the last Pukekohe weekend. It’s a great circuit and it’s a shame we won’t get to race here again.

“A few cars got quite a bit of damage this weekend, but we’ve got a straight car to take back to Australia and get ready for Bathurst now.”

Lee Holdsworth, said: “Our race speed was good over a longer run which we were able to take advantage of this weekend. We recovered well in each race from qualifying but it’s still a focus for car 10 moving forward.

“It’s been awesome racing here at Pukekohe over the years, it’s a drivers track and has so much character. I’m gutted it’s no longer going to be on the calendar.

“Bathurst is up next. I’m looking forward to teaming up with Matt Payne to take on the mountain and do my best to defend my crown.”
