TOP 10 RESULTS AND A NEAR MISS IN MIXED WEATHER ON SUNDAY AT THE BEND

TOP 10 RESULTS IN A MIXED WEATHER SUNDAY AT THE BEND

Sunday, July 31 – OTR SuperSprint, The Bend – South Australia

Penrite Racing negotiated mixed weather conditions and avoided a colossal crash on a dramatic Sunday at The Bend in South Australia to claim two top 10 finishes, today.

In Race 22, Lee Holdsworth dodged a stalled Thomas Randle by millimetres before a colossal crash ensued behind him when Andre Heimgartner piled into the rear of Randle at 150km/hr, causing a red flag in the opening race.

Once underway Holdsworth ran P9 before encountering more drama, with a temporary loss of radio comms leading to contact pit lane contact with Scott Pye. A 15 time penalty ensued. David Reynolds showed strong car speed to move five places forward and score his second consecutive 8th place finish at The Bend.

After the heavens opened for Race 23 Reynolds stormed through the field from last place on the grid, clawing his way inside the top 10 at the halfway point of the race and ahead of Holdsworth on track.

This however is where Reynolds day hit trouble, spinning into James Golding and damaging his Penrite Mustang. Holdsworth meanwhile showed a safe pair of hands in difficult conditions to claim the last spot in the top 10 and finish his weekend with a positive.

DRIVER COMMENTS

Car #26 Penrite Racing driver, David Reynolds, said: “It was a mixed day for us we had an ok run in the first race today and got another 8th place.

“I started at the back for the second race after I lost all the info on my dash in Qualifying. I had awesome speed in the wet l so I was flying through the field, then halfway through the race I just locked the rears and spun into Golding. We’ll take home two top 10’s in the dry which shows we’re going in the right direction.

“I’m still 7th in the championship which is good, but we’re about 0.5s behind the pace of the lead pack at the moment so we just need to keep working hard to close the gap.”

Car #10 Penrite Racing driver, Lee Holdsworth, said: “It was an eventful day. In the first race we were running 9th before the pit lane issue. We showed good progress this weekend on my car so I’m happy we were able to bring home a top 10 finish in the final race as a small reward.

“Although as a team we’re still searching for more car speed it was a more positive weekend for me so I’m hoping we can take these gains into Sandown next round for my 500th race start.”

It was wet and wild in Race 23 at The Bend today where Holdsworth finished P10
