Trying weekend in Townsville a test for Penrite Racing
David Reynolds and Lee Holdsworth fought hard on Sunday but to no avail in a difficult weekend of racing at the Townsville 500 for Penrite Racing.
Reynolds brought a ray of sunshine into the garage by making it into the top ten shootout this morning, where he managed to qualify P9.
In todays 250km race, Reynolds climbed his way forward to P7 with 19 laps to go before his tyres fell away, falling to P11 by the chequered flag.
Holdsworth meanwhile endured his hardest weekend of the season so far as he battled to find car speed.
Here’s what the drivers had to say…
Car #26 Penrite Racing driver, David Reynolds, said: “We knew we were going to face a few challenges today so getting into the top ten shootout was a positive all things considering.
“In the race I got a good jump and avoided Scott Pye’s crash on lap 1, but as we got into the stunt our Achilles heel all weekend – hard tyre pace, made life difficult.
“Once I got the SuperSoft tyres on at the end I had really good speed and got up to P7, then I just couldn’t hold onto them and dropped to P11. Hopefully The Bend next up suits our package better with the high grip surface and sprint races there.”
Car #10 Penrite Racing driver, Lee Holdsworth, said: “This weekend has been our toughest all year. We tried a lot of different things with the cars on set up but we never found a clear direction.
“It’s a test for us and as long as we learn from it, which I think we will, then we’ll come back with more speed at The Bend in a few weeks time.”
