PENRITE RACING FIGHTS THEIR WAY FORWARD UNDER THE SATURDAY NIGHT LIGHTS IN PERTH

A top 4 finish for David Reynolds and a fighting recovery drive from the back of the grid for Lee Holdsworth has landed a strong points haul for Penrite Racing tonight in Perth.

With grip levels at Barbagallo Raceway proving the big topic of the day, both drivers met the challenge with mixed results in Qualifying during the day time.

But once the sun went down and the lights came on in Perth, the Penrite Racing boys fought their way forwards with a mix of good car speed and a yin and yang approach to strategy.

Reynolds got a lightning start off the line in P5 and pitted first of the lead pack on Lap 18 of 46, setting the fastest lap of the race shortly after, while Holdsworth pitted last in the field on Lap 32.

Sitting in P18 with 12 laps to run, Holdsworth charged through the pack on fresh tyres to narrowly miss a top 10 finish in P11. Reynolds meanwhile cruised home to a somewhat lonely, yet rewarding P4, taking home a healthy bag of championship points on a night when some notable championship contenders struggled.

Car #26 Penrite Racing driver, David Reynolds: “We finished where we expected tonight. I’m pretty happy with P4. Our pace is good and we’re right in the mix up the front this weekend.”

“In the race tonight we probably should have pitted a little bit later in the race but we made the call to stop early for clean air. I was really fast when I rejoined but towards the end I was just holding my pace and couldn’t threaten for the podium.

“The track surface isn’t great during the day time so the Sunday races will be tricky, but I’m confident we can pick up where we left off from tonight.”

Car #10 Penrite Racing driver, Lee Holdsworth: “We made some good gains with the car tonight. The balance and pace was strong – I’m hoping that will carry through for our qualifying car for tomorrow.”

“I’m happy with the recovery drive to P11 after starting at the back. In Qualifying here at such a short track if you are 0.2s off it’s the difference between almost 15 positions on the grid.

“We were the last to pit tonight which was a good call. The surface will be really low grip under the sun for both Sunday races so we’ll have to be on our game to work through that challenge.”
